In the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, we aim to equip physicians with the necessary skills in this field, enabling them to effectively handle daily events in the community. This includes specialization in forensic medicine, understanding toxic substances, their treatment, and preventive measures.

Description


The department was established in the 2019-2020 academic year under the leadership of Professor Dr. Othman Al-Shibani Al-Zintani. The department continues to teach Forensic Medicine and Toxicology to fourth-year students, in collaboration with professors from neighboring universities. Currently, the department has two assistant lecturers who are dedicated to working in the department and supervising the practical training of students.

Leadership and excellence in preparing highly skilled physicians in the fields of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at both the local and regional levels.

Mission


Providing exceptional education to fourth-year students in the fields of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, enabling them to contribute to the diagnosis and determination of causes of death, as well as the treatment of poisoning cases, ultimately aiming to save lives.

Goals


  • Identifying individuals in both civil and criminal cases, whether they are unidentified or disfigured.
  • Recognizing separated human body parts in cases of death due to accidents and disasters.
  • Identifying damaged tissues in accidents and disasters.
  • Diagnosing death (clinical death and brain death), determining the cause and time of death.
  • Writing death certificates according to the cause of death.
  • Examining cases with potential criminal implications, such as wounds, head injuries, and sexual assaults, including medical examination procedures and legal protocols for such cases.
  • Writing medical reports.
  • Collecting and preserving biological samples and forensic evidence.
  • Understanding different types of toxins (plant-based, metallic, animal, and medicinal).
  • Diagnosing and treating cases of poisoning (acute and chronic) in living patients.
  • Recognizing signs of poisoning after death.
  • Understanding the ethics of medical practice, medical responsibility, and professional medical errors.
